Good Companion Awards
Association of Pet Dog Trainers UK
Designed to help owners attain an award for being good companions to their dogs and their dog to them.
These training classes are designed to teach you various exercises that you can then be assessed at the end of the course. The courses will run for six weeks. There are a number of Awards available from Puppy to Advanced Level.
The Puppy award is suitable for all puppies under the age of seven months at completion.
The Foundation award is suitable for all dogs over the age of six months at the start.
The Improver award is available for all dogs who have successfully completed the Puppy or Foundation award.
The Intermediate award is suitable for all dogs who have successfully completed the Improver award.
The Advanced award is suitable for all dogs who have successfully completed the Intermediate award.
Your instructor will teach various training exercises such as sit, down, stand, recall, settle, lead walking, drop/give, self control (door/food), handling, for example, and then you will be assessed on the last week. Questions will be asked throughout the assessment on the material provided in the 'Guardian Information Pack' to help your instructor see your level of understanding.
All assessments follow the APDT Code of Practise. Click here to view Code of Practise
